Emma is clapping now. It's so incredibly adorable. Last week, she was making more of a "time out" sign, but this weekend she definitely got the clap action down. She also started imitating this noise that we make to get their attention - basically, running your tongue over the inside of your mouth and making a noise. It's hard to describe, but we're hoping to catch it on video soon.
Emma has decided that she wants to be sitting up (or kneeling) while she takes her bottle. Problem is, she can't hold the bottle up high enough. So she gets all cranky when we put her in the Boppy. She cries and twists around until she's sitting up, and then cries until you're holding the bottle for her. It's just frustrating to have gone from her holding her own bottle back to me holding it for her. Becca is our champion bottle holder now, and has a fancy technique involving one hand on the bottom of the bottle.
Julie has started putting her hands over her ears. Not quite sure what's going on there. I think she's just discovered her ears/hearing and is figuring out what it sounds like when she covers her ears.
Two little trouble makers standing at the gate. Yup, Becca's pulling up now, too.

So, Emma had that rogue fever last Monday. On Thursday, daycare called and said that Julie had a fever and was basically just crawling around crying. I took her to the doctor, and they pretty much said it's just a virus. We had just finished the antibiotics for last week's ear infection THAT morning, so they didn't give her any more. We were also scheduled for H1N1 booster shots for Thursday night (2 trips to the dr's office in one day!), and since Julie's fever had come down a bit without any tylenol, we were still ok to get them.
Picking up Julie from daycare...

We proceeded as planned, and went out for pizza (for us, and apples + apricots for the girls). Straws still make the best stand-ins for toys that get dropped on the ground within 30 seconds.
Pizza + apples & apricots

Emma is so easily distracted and has to see EVERYTHING. She would not face forward, no matter which way you turned the high chair. We eventually wedged all of the girls' coats behind her in the high chair so she couldn't spin around.

Julie has started chewing her sleeves.

Straws are fun.

Julie started getting cranky while we were eating, and I made them check her temperature again before we got the shot, and of course she was up over 101 again. So Bex and Ems got their shots, and now we've got to go back with Julie sometime.
Becca slept terribly on Friday night, which meant that we slept terribly. She was up and thrashing around (in our bed) all night long. Yup, she came down with a fever, too. Hopefully it was whatever Emma and Julie had, because it was pretty short-lived. She was doing better by Sunday afternoon. I think part of her crankiness during the day was just that she wasn't sleeping well at all.
Emma's daycare class had a Christmas Pajama Party on Friday, and sent her home with a goodie bag including these reindeer antlers.

Julie and Becca had to try them out, too.

We thought that once the girls started sitting up on their own and were all pretty stable, we'd try to give them a bath together to try to speed things up. Emma and Becca had a blast, giggling non-stop and stealing toys from each other, crawling all over each other to try to get the toys. Julie acted like, "Will you guys calm down? This is supposed to be MY bath." It went ok, up until the end. Greg had taken Julie out after she started crying, to dry her off. I was left with Emma and Becca, who by this point were trying to crawl out of the tub. Emma's face went under the water briefly, and she freaked out, and then Becca fell over backward and just started kicking and splashing. They were both trying to crawl out of the tub, and kept slipping, and crying, and trying to crawl out... Basically, one arm for each of them just wasn't enough. So we're back to solo baths again for a while.
Miss Emma is still not big on the "solid" solid foods. She'll eat about anything, as long as it's pureed smooth. I thought she was eating the "lunch buffet" on Saturday. But no, she was just throwing it all in her bib. She looks pretty proud of herself, too, doesn't she?

"Oh, you wanted me to EAT this stuff? I thought you wanted me to just make it disappear from the tray."

They are trying to feed her some table food in the new Infant Class. She ate some chicken broth (the Big Kids had chicken noodle soup). She wouldn't eat the pudding, and passed on the mashed potatoes the first time (ate a little bit the second time). When they had their big Christmas Party, they had cupcakes, jello, and cheese puffs... and she just played with them. Wouldn't eat them. It listed cheese puffs on her sheet from today - - not sure if she ate them, but there are clearly cheese puffs in her bib in the pics above that she refused to eat this weekend.
Julie just took one short nap on Sunday, and by the time we realized it, it was dinner time, and she was in Atomic Meltdown Mode. She can go from fine to bright-red-face-screaming-bloody-murder in about 2 seconds flat. The puffs helped temporarily, but then she crashed in her high chair before we could get her cleaned up. Yes, that is a sippy cup pillow. I don't recommend it.

Hoping that the cold air might refresh her spirits, we went up the street to see the neighbors' huge Christmas light display. There were a lot of people there, but we got through ok. A few outbursts from Julie and Becca, but they seemed to enjoy it. We're thinking about trying another light display sometime this week.

Tonight was a March of Dimes holiday dinner for the NICU doctors, nurses, and the parents of babies currently in the NICU, so I took a corn casserole dish back up to the hospital. It was so weird to be at the hospital again. It actually gave me goosebumps when I was leaving. We. are. so. lucky. And. thankful. I didn't see many people that I knew, but met some new ones, and did see one of the MFM nurses that I talked to every week.
And, if you're looking for a hot stock pick (why else would you be reading?): check out Boogie Wipes. I found them when I was looking for saline wipes for crusty noses. The NICU sent us home with a pile of saline wipes, and they seemed to work really well. Boogie Wipes are working really, really well for us, though they are a little expensive. But we've sent them in to daycare, and everyone is asking where we got them. So yeah, with the quantity that we're buying, you may want to look into their stock...

Yay for getting a cleaner! We had one for years when the kids were small, the house would not have got cleaned otherwise. So glad that all is now well on the sickness front. Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!
I told my cousin about Boogie Wipes; saw them at the grocery store. Don't you wish you would have thought of something like that?
If only I could get my father to commit to a cleaning lady. He is in such need of one.
