One appointment down...

We had our big anatomy ultrasound yesterday, which was made all the more nerve wracking by the fact that we already knew that Baby B had a single umbilical artery, and they'd be looking for major organ systems problems in the ultrasound. But luckily we have good news to report - all 3 babies look to be fine so far. We're still seeing the specialist every 2 weeks, and they'll continue to monitor their growth and look for any problems.

We finally took some pictures yesterday...

No Drama = A Good Week

I've become a blog slacker. I blame my rigorous sleeping schedule.

Greg's birthday was last Thursday. And I had the nerve to drag him to a Moms of Multiples meeting that night. It was kind of an "introduction" meeting, so we didn't stay for too long. It was good to meet some people who have experience with this adventure we're about to start on. We just grabbed a quick dinner on the way home. I didn't get my nap in that afternoon, and was just exhausted by the time we got home. But I made it up to Greg by taking him to the Lazy Goat on Saturday night. It wasn't as good as previous times we've been there - I'm not sure if my tastebuds are doing funny things or what. Of course, the service was pretty crappy, which didn't help.

I was back into the doctor on Friday. It's pretty clear at this point that I've developed gestational diabetes. They took some blood on Friday and were supposed to call me back today with the results ... and of course didn't. In the mean time, I'm trying to figure out what it is I can eat... The good news (knock on wood) is that my blood pressure has been down a bit, back in the neighborhood of 120/70. Still checking on it every day.

We took an infant CPR course at the hospital on Saturday. It was pretty intense - much more physical than I was expecting it to be! They recommended that women in their 3rd trimester not take it, and now I can see why. It covered infants and children (and kind of talked about adults), and I'm definitely glad we took it. I feel like I'd been meaning to take a SPR course forever.

Oh -- there was one other couple in the CPR class with us. We stopped at Costco after the class, and as we were coming out, who do we see? Small world!

Well, at least Saturday was good.

On Saturday, we decided to go apple picking again, for probably the last time this year. Such perfect fall weather - it was finally cold! It was late in the afternoon when we got up there, but it was probably only in the 50s and windy. So nice to finally need a jacket in the afternoon! We were largely in the shade when we were picking apples, and both of us said that our hands were getting cold.

We had dinner with some friends- Jon & Holly and their two kids, and Lisa. It was fun to see them, and just to be out with other people. And kind of a realization that there won't be much more of this in our future, for quite a while! :) We stopped at Starbucks on the way home - finally cold enough for hot chocolate!

So Saturday was good.

And then there was Sunday.

We ended up at the hospital at 4am due to some pregnancy complications. I was so scared I was just shaking. They couldn't find anything to explain my symptoms, so they kept me for a few hours and monitored blood pressure and contractions, and took some blood. Still no answers. The doctor did an ultrasound and saw all three heartbeats, and at that point, sent us home. Greg and I are just physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausted.

30 Pink Fingernails and 30 Purple Toenails

The much anticipated announcement - - we're expecting 3 girls! :)

The babies seem to be doing well. We had an appointment with the specialist early this week, and discovered that our Baby B has a single umbilical artery. Basically, the umbilical cord should have two arteries and one vein. A single umbilical artery could be a symptom of bigger problems (any of the major organ system, or a chromosomal problem), or might just restrict her growth. We're at the point where we don't have enough information to worry yet ... so until we know we have something to worry about, we'll just keep an eye on her and hope for the best. In another 2 weeks, we go in for a much more in-depth (they told me to be prepared for 90 minutes) "anatomy" ultrasound, where they'll look at all of the major organs of each baby to try to detect any abnormalities, and make sure they're all developing like they should be.

Yesterday was my appointment with the regular OB, and those appointments are kind of routine now. My blood pressure is still on the high side, but fairly stable at the moment. Just trying to monitor it every day. They also found some sugar in my urine yesterday, so at my next appointment, I've got to have some blood draw to test for gestational diabetes.

We ate well last weekend.

Can't believe it's Thursday already, and I'm just getting around to our update from the weekend. We ran some errands on Saturday, and spent some more quality time at Babies R Us. That place is just mind boggling. After we came home (and I could lay down for a bit!), we decided to try a new restaurant. It's in this spot that used to be a bar, and then apparently became something else, and now is in its third incarnation since I've been here. My expectations weren't high, but someone at work had recommended it, so we thought we'd try it. (For locals, here's the link.) It was so good! I had steak (indulging in red meat while I can -- it's good for the babies! They need lots of protein!), and Greg had scallops. Oooh, and we had a celebrity citing - one of the local news anchors (Michael Cogdill) was one table down from us. We think he lives around here somewhere, because we saw him at TCBY once a few years ago.

On Sunday, the weather was just perfect, and we decided to go to a festival downtown called Fall for Greenville, that's basically a food festival. It meant I didn't have to cook dinner on Sunday. :) Lots of local restaurants have little tents where you can try small portions of a few dishes. It's a good way to get a taste of lots of your favorites. We had lobster cigars, fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese, cupcakes, a hamburger, shrimp and grits, and I'm sure I'm forgetting something. Some pictures...

Greg took some pretty pictures of the park on our way out, too.

I've been attempting to avoid photos where you can see my big belly for a while now, but this lady offered to take a picture for us... so we let her ... and of course the angle is just terrible... I mean, at least with Greg's arm shots we get some scenery in the background. And looking up at my belly is certainly not the most flattering angle. But I'll stop protesting now. :) I'm getting there. I look a lot bigger from the side... I just noticed that in the mirror over the weekend. I think I've grown a lot just in the last week or two.

More apples, BBQ, Lefty, and Allergies

That about sums up the weekend.

On Saturday, we went up for some more apples. Even though we got a really big bag 2 weeks ago, we really had to cut back the 2nd week to make them last! We got a big bucket of Winesap, because those are my absolute favorite. I think they're still a little on the early side - they were kind of hard to get off the tree. But oh, so good. We also bought some Mutsu for eating and some golden delicious for baking while we were there. It was a just a gorgeous day - mid 70s, and a bright blue sky. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen so many people at the orchard... It was a bit of a zoo.

Some pictures, because it feels like it's been forever since I've had the camera out:

After apples, we headed up the road a little further for lunch - this is the place where we normally get pizza, but we decided to try the new BBQ that they added out back. The wait was just as long as for the pizza, but the BBQ was great! I am rather intrigued by the cups, though, as they say they are made from corn and are compostable. We're going to try it and see how long it takes them to break down.

This morning, I finally got a picture of Lefty's "puffy tail." It usually shows up when she really really wants treats and thinks she's going to get them, or sometimes when she's being pet. It's so funny, because her tail just gets huge. It's not a great picture, but she's usually darting around frantically at times like these.

She's addicted to 2 treats at the moment - the tuna flakes, and these Whisker Lickins things we get at Target. Whenever you're even remotely near the pantry, she'll run in front of you and try to lead you over there. Or she'll just sit in front of it and stare at you. Once you're in the pantry, she knows exactly where they are, and gets up and puts her paws on the tupperware bin that they're in, and will make a swat at them when you take them out. She's inhaling them, though. The other day she threw up about 6 of them, probably because they got stuck in her throat. (It's actually extremely rare for either of them to throw up anything.) Today she had them polished off by the time I put the container back and walked back by her plate. She was already looking for more.

My allergies have just been going crazy today. Sneezing, nose dripping, congested. I just have days like this occasionally where it's nonstop. I don't think there's a whole lot I can do for it at this point, since I'm already on Zyrtec. I may try another shower before bed.

Long time, no update!

I left work a little early last Friday to check out a fabric store that I haven't been able to make it to. Unfortunately, it didn't take me long to figure out that they don't have much, and certainly didn't have what I was looking for. I had time to run to the fabric store closer to home and got exactly what I was looking for. I've had this swatch of fabric for years now, and I finally decided I wanted to make curtains for the babies' rooms with it. So what do you think? The green is really a bit more grass and less olive than it looks in the picture. The little circles are pink, orange, red, and 2 shades of yellow. We decided that there's just not going to be room to put them in the room next to ours, so we're going to be turning the bonus room (over the garage) into a nursery. We're painting the walls a light, warm yellow - the yellow we bought 20 gallons of to do the kitchen, living room, and most of the upstairs. So the curtains will be my next project.

On Saturday, we went to IKEA, despite the gas shortage in Georgia. Actually, we tried filling up on Friday, and started to run into gas shortages around here, too. Depending on the day, it can be hard to find gas. We're ok for now, and they keep saying that the situation should be improving... Anyhow, we actually showed a good bit of restraint at IKEA, and mostly got stuff to try to pull together a home office. We just spend so much time in there (which will surely change!), but we've just got a rag tag mess of stuff in there, not enough storage, not the right kind of storage, etc.

In baby news, I've had 2 doctors' appointments this week, and everything is looking good. The specialists looked at the babies on Monday to check their growth, and everyone's right on track. I went to the regular OB today, and the only concern at this point is my blood pressure; it's still gradually rising. The doctor today said that it normally should start dropping, and I'm really hoping that happens. If it gets to 160/110, I go on automatic hospital bed rest. I finally found the blood pressure machine at work today, so I'm going to start checking it daily.

Been sleeping with the windows open lately! Oh, I just love fall!
