Testing Limits

Becca and Emma have definitely been testing their limits lately.

We've got a small table between the two couches, and they are allowed to play with toys on it, either from the floor or the couches. Well, now all three of them can pull themselves up on the couches. Emma and Becca are starting to stand and crawl onto the table now, though, which is off limits. So, we tell them "no." And then we take them down off the couch (and they whine and then get back up. But still.). But they know they're not supposed to do it, because they'll look right at me before they do it. I tried ignoring it once, but they kept on going. This isn't boding well for the teenage years, is it?

We're also having some battles with the before-bed sippy cups. They're supposed to sit in their red chairs, but they pop up and down the whole time, and play musical chairs. They know the word "sit," but they like to see how far they can push us.

Oh, and regarding my last post about Emma understanding us... This morning, Emma was on the other side of the living room playing with something. I was sitting next to Julie, and without gesturing, I said, "Julie, can you put the keys in the basket?" I was testing to see if Julie understood. She didn't, or was ignoring me. A few seconds later, Emma comes over. Takes the keys from Julie. Puts them in the basket. And goes back to what she was doing.
