Personality and Developmental Notes 1/13/11

The girls do not like elevators.

I swear I heard Julie say "That Emma, she not nice." How's that for a first sentence?

We also now know the word "heiny," and it's all due to those Mr. Potato Heads (which they love). But their heinies keep falling off, and whenever they want us to fix them, they bring the two pieces over to us and say "heiny? heiny?" I think it's mostly Julie at the moment.

Since Christmas time, we've been reading 2 or 3 books to the girls before bed (up from 1). They (mostly Emma) have started putting in requests for "Ma-neh." That would be "Marvin K Mooney." They also say "go go go" and "do do do." They really like the work "jet" right now, too. Also, Emma has memorized the "old blue shoe." It's the most adorable thing to hear her say "oh boo shoo." She says it right on cue.

Emma insists on the pink forks. NOT the yellow ones. Strangely, she isn't too particular about spoon color right now. And the girls all seem to know their and each other's cup colors.

When we were at Target the other day, I picked up some more hair elastics for them. Becca was carrying them, and one of the girls ... I think it was Julie but honestly can't remember right now... said "Shake it Becca!" Now, to explain, we have a toy that has 4 shaker instruments that all snap together. Becca likes to take the whole thing and shake it, and we've started saying "Shake it, Becca!" But I had to burst out laughing when I heard my words come out of one of their mouths.

Julie is the queen of "Move." Usually "Move mommy" or "Move daddy."

The girls got a Pixar DVD for Christmas of some shorts (as in, short attention spans). We tried watching it once or twice before and they weren't really interested. Greg was trying to distract them while I made dinner one night, though, and they started watching it. Well, the "Tin Toy" came on. In summary, it's about a tin toy that is afraid of the big slobbery baby so he hides, but then the baby falls over and cries and the tin toy comes out to cheer up the baby. Anyhow, Emma became obsessed. As soon as it was over, "BABY! BABY! BABY!" She continued screaming "BABY!" while Greg fumbled with the DVD player to try to get it back. He finally found the "repeat" button.

Now that we're in long sleeve weather, we pull the girls sleeves up when they eat. Well, apparently this is cool. Sometimes they get really mad when we try to push them back down.

Julie has apparently been watching me, because I've caught her a couple of times shutting things with her butt,,, the door on her little car, cabinet doors, the front door.

When we go upstairs for baths or bed time, the girls have started saying "bye bye" to their toys. My favorite one right now is "bye bye tato" (potato).

The girls love the utensils with their kitchen - they love spoons, spatulas, etc. Well, yesterday Julie was "stirring" things in her pot with an extra Mr. Potato Head arm.

Sometime over the last few weeks, Becca started refusing to wear mittens and has started putting her hands in her jacket pocket. Oh so cute! Julie just started doing it, too. They know the word "pocket," too, and are always interested in what's in daddy's shirt pocket.

The pop up tent that they got for Christmas has been a big hit lately. They have figured out where we keep it (rolled up, wedged between the wall and the entertainment center), and they'll point to it and say "tent." Then a gigglefest begins - in and out, around and around. It's super static-y, too, and their hair is so fine that they come out with it standing straight up.

Emma was trying to tell Greg she wanted "breakfast" yesterday morning.
